Signing bonds – things to know first

Back in the days when someone was arrested, there were only two ways to get the person out of jail. Either the court issues a verdict and declares a said person as innocent or bail was to arrange for quite a hefty sum of money which no ordinary person would be able to afford. Both the ways required time and money, two things which no one would be able to donate freely. Now though, things have changed and the bail bonds have made their way to the rescue.

Having someone locked up behind bars is a daunting experience. It gets even harder if that someone is a beloved person or a close friend. Naturally, you would rush to the local bonding agencies and hope to arrange bail as quick as possible. While that may sound all good and something worth the appreciation, there are a few things that you should give a moment or two for and think through.

Arranging bail bonds is indeed easy but the stipulations and requirements are quite steep and a huge responsibility to bear. Before signing any documents or agreeing to the terms, understand them first. Once you sign these, you will be liable to ensure that the offender or the accused is made available within the court on every single hearing. Miss any out and you will be charged with a large sum of money as full fee for the bail. The defendant will also be charged with “failure to appear” which would remain permanently in records. Both these situations are worrying yet true.

Bail bonds have some other stipulations but the main ones have already been explained to you. Ensure that you give it a good thought, research a little about them and their prices that you can get. Sign only when you know for sure that you will be able to deliver on the said responsibilities.
